Donald Ray Thompson

Donald Ray Thompson, 80, of El Dorado, Arkansas was welcomed into the presence of Jesus on December 7, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas after a brief illness.

He was born December 22, 1944 in Magnolia, Arkansas. He is survived by his sister, Gayle Thompson Burbank (Doug), special niece Amber Michael (Kyle), nephews Keaton Michael and Kolby Michael, a daughter Wendy Ann Morgan, 4 grandchildren - England Aguirre, Rhyan Morgan, Hailey Stephens, Anna Marie Stephens, and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Geneva Thompson, and daughter Deanna Gayle Stephens, all of El Dorado.

Don was employed by the El Dorado School District, serving 37 years as an Accountant. He was an avid Razorback fan, traveling often to cheer them on. Don could most often be found pedaling a bicycle, whether racing or for fun, as he loved physical fitness. He participated in many marathons throughout his life, including the Houston Marathon and the White Rock Marathon. Don always enjoyed staying active.

Don cherished a very special group of friends. Stow Delone, Rob Mitchell, Bob and Carolyn Cook, Chad and Michelle Mosby, Wannell Morgan, Karen Frisby, Danna Smith, Kelly Gatheright, and Wayne Blackmon enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon lunches with Don regularly.

The cafeteria workers at the South Arkansas Regional Health Center held a special place in Don’s heart, for he frequented the cafeteria and developed special relationships with them. While he had many wonderful nurses throughout his illness, Haley Helm with PAM Specialty Hospital in Texarkana, TX stayed by his side with compassion and care.

Throughout his illness Don demonstrated great strength and showed kindness to all. He never lost his sense of humor or his enthusiasm for his beloved Razorbacks.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Clark Whitney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock or Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado.
