Donna Kay Wren, 82, of El Dorado, AR, passed away at her home Saturday, November 23, 2024, after a long illness. We rejoice that she now has a glorified body and is in Heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born on March 3, 1942, in El Dorado, AR. She was a graduate of El Dorado High School and attended business school. In the early 60s, she started her working career at El Dorado Florist, and later became co-owner with Marilyn Wisinger. She was active in the Arkansas State Florist Association and traveled to many conventions and even one in Hawaii.
After her retirement, she volunteered as a “Pink Lady” for the Medical Center of Southern Arkansas Auxiliary serving as the buyer for the gift shop. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active and served on many committees and was Secretary of the Wesleyan Sunday School class. She volunteered for Hospice for many years serving meals for her church to loved ones of patients and nurses/staff.
She loved gardening and spent many hours growing beautiful flowers in her backyard. She was an avid Razorback fan and enjoyed all their sports, as well as the Dallas Cowboys and NY Yankees. She also loved to travel. She was a strong lady with a kind gentle spirit and lived her life with faith and courage.
She was preceded in death by her mom, Jearleen Thompson Wren and her grandparents, Melvin M. and Margaret Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gary Nicklaus; nephew, Daniel Nicklaus of Maumelle, AR, and niece, Debra K Nicklaus, of Apex, North Carolina. Her creative gifts were shown in her gardens, paintings, and her life’s work as a florist. She was a devoted sister and aunt, friend and volunteer. She was a “second mom” to her niece, Debra, and her nephew, Daniel.
Funeral will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 27th, in the Chapel of Young’s Funeral Home of El Dorado with Dr David Bush officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
The family would like to thank the staff of Life Touch Hospice for the loving care they provided. We also thank the beloved caregivers, Pasty Burns, Doris Miles, Betty Arnold, and Veloria Mays, who cared for Donny Kay for the past 4 years in her home.
We will be loving and missing her till we see her again.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm Tuesday, November 26th at Young’s funeral home.
