Dorothy J. McGarity, DDS, 78, of El Dorado, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023. She was born on June 13, 1945 in Star City, AR.
She was a graduate of Junction City High School, Southern Arkansas University, and continued to The University of Tennessee where she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. She returned to El Dorado, Arkansas, opening a private Dental Practice in 1985 and continued until retirement. She was a very generous person who loved her family and community, which was evident by her constant donations and help when someone was in need. She regularly donated her time delivering dental care at the Interfaith Dental Clinic. She was known to many as Mrs. Christmas, because of her elaborate decorations for the holiday season. She will be missed as the matriarch of her family and a loving friend to many. She was a great cook and a consummate hostess. Her family and close friends remember her most for her generous giving heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Addie and Jesse Jackson of Junction City, and her God-given parents Ezell and Columbus Vines of El Dorado. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John Jackson and Allen Jackson; sisters, Jessie Laverne Jackson and Martha Jackson Faulkner; God-given brothers James Vines, Charles Vines and Glynn Vines.
Survivors include: Loving husband of 60 years Carroll B. McGarity, Daughter Robin Mooney (John), Grandchildren Daniel Hayes and Sydney Sandoval (Derrick), Great Grandson Saxxton Brint Sandoval, Sisters Annette Phillips, Evelyn Stewart, Chris Womack (Johnny), Ginger Seale (Jim), and Ruby Lockey (Dale). Extended daughter/sister: Sonia Smithson DDS. Honorary Pallbearers are Rick McGarity, David Ewing, Billy Tucker, Curtis Smiley, Ricky Vines, Russell Vines and Earl Cook. Pallbearers are Rob Ballard, John David Jackson, Jimbo Seale, Bill Chappell, Harlen Brown and Richard Nesbit.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. tonight at Young’s Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Crestview Baptist Church, Highway 2, in Farmerville, LA. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, 5044 N. Wyatt Dr., El Dorado, AR under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
