Govan was elected back in November of 2022, and since then her office has been tasked with assisting the circuit court judge in the execution of their judicial duties by preparing and maintaining court records, collecting fees and fines, and processing paperwork. Another task is entering the judge’s notes into Court Connect post-trial.
County officials say that Govan had been caught tampering with evidence twice in Court Connect. After the second time, the Union County Sheriff’s Department took immediate action. Changing the judge’s notes is considered a felony charge.
On April 24th, Captain Jeff Stinson’s team obtained a warrant for Govan’s arrest. Govan turned herself in willingly to the Sheriff’s Office and was detained. She did not resist and was compliant.
