He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves before joining his father at El Dorado Lumber Co., where he traded stories and greeted friends and customers for over 50 years.
A natural historian, he was the keeper and sharer of anything you could ever want to know (or not want to know) about anything and everything, especially if it involved the history of El Dorado.
If he wasn't at the Lumber Company, you could find him visiting friends and helping them with various projects or serving in some capacity at El Dorado First Assembly of God Church, where he was a faithful long-term member.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, James Rowland McWilliams; and his sister, Bobbie Herndon Bowen.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Katie of Springdale; a daughter, Lauren Spencer McClure (Wesley); and three grandchildren, Lawson Michael McClure, Spencer Kate McClure, and Rowen Jayne McClure, all of Fayetteville. He is also survived by six nephews: Kelley McWilliams and Scott McWilliams of Luling, LA; and Randy Bowen, Glenn Bowen, Larry Bowen, and Dan Bowen of Benton, AR.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at First Assembly of God Church, 2225 West Hillsboro St., El Dorado, AR, with the service to follow. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery, Highway 172, Lisbon, AR.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Tucker, Bill Foster Jr., Frank Hash, Ray Ellen, Jimmy Lynn Moffett, Jeff Murphree, and Wayne Ederington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillcrest Children's Home/Compact, 2325 Malvern Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901, or to the Salem Cemetery Fund, c/o Bob Willett, P.O. Box 48, Smackover, AR 71762.
