James "Charles" Burns, of El Dorado, Arkansas, was born on May 13, 1937, in Warren, Arkansas, to James Columbus "J.C." and Jennie Clyde Burns. On June 17, 2025, Charles passed away peacefully at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Burns of Warren, Arkansas.
A devoted husband and father, Charles is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Patricia Brockwell Burns of El Dorado; two sons, Chris (Cindy) Burns of El Dorado, and Jeff (Beth) Burns of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Morgan (Jay) Areno of Ruston, Louisiana; Caitlin (Nick) Allen of Charleston, South Carolina; Elizabeth Burns (fiancé Adam Baker) of Chicago, Illinois; and Jared Burns of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Charles is also survived by his siblings: Kathryn Savage of Bedford, Texas; Mary McClellan of New Edinburg, Arkansas; and Larry Burns of Warren, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Raised in Warren, Charles graduated from Warren High School, where he played football and excelled in geometry. In 1967, he moved his family to El Dorado and began a long career at Calion Lumber Company, where he worked for 40 years.
Charles enjoyed a full and active life. He loved spending time with family, hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, woodworking, reading, square dancing, and attending local country music shows.
A Celebration of Life was held at Young’s Funeral Directors. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Young’s.
