Patsy Ruth Shope, 85 of Smackover passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at South Arkansas Regional Hospital. Born November 16, 1939 in Brownstown, Arkansas she was the daughter of Arthur Gray Ray and Gladys Cleo Cooper Ray.
Mrs. Shope had been employed by the El Dorado School System as a secretary in the Special Education branch. She was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding her in death along with her parents was a brother, Kenneth E. Ray.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Shope of Smackover and a son, Lawrence “Chip” Shope, III and his wife Melinda of Texarkana, Texas. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Amber Lewis (Nathan) of Tupelo, MS and a grandson, Lawrence “Lee” Shope IV and his wife Hollie of Hattiesburg, MS along with a brother, Dennis Ray and his wife Rose of Jacksonville, AR.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2025 in Young’s Chapel with funeral services to follow at 10:00 a.m. Brother Robert Thornton will officiate assisted by Mrs. Shope’s grandson, Lee. Interment will follow in Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
