UCCD staff work alongside the Union County Water Conservation Board on the Sparta Aquifer Recovery Initiative to provide USGS scientists with aquifer data from appx 100 industrial, municipal and private water wells in the five county South Arkansas Critical Drinking Water Area. Staff also assist county residents by providing information on Federal and State conservation program grants, processing annual poultry producer registrations and providing information related to farming & ranching, poultry production, and timber production. Conservation districts are political subdivisions of the state, created by the Arkansas legislature in 1937 for the purpose of providing locally led conservation of the state's land and water resources. Each of the state's 75 conservation districts are governed by a five member board of directors, including three elected resident landowners and two members appointed by the state Natural Resources Commission.
